Snow in Miyagi
The eastern plain gets plenty of sun in winter; the snow falls in the west, on the foothills of the Ou Mountains. The ski areas fall into three groups: the Miyagi side of Zao in the southwest, Izumigatake northwest of Sendai, and Kami and Naruko Onikobe farther northwest. Izumigatake can be reached from Sendai by public transport alone, by city bus from Izumi-Chuo subway station.
