Month by month, the most snow falls in February. March brings 97% of January’s snowfall. That is a gentler fall than the median for ski areas in Austria (75%). For skiing, though, the amount matters more than the share: March brings 31 cm, less than the median of 49 cm.
Winter by winter
Across the 12 winters measured, the average is 142 cm, and 7 of them fell short of it. The leanest was 2016/17 with 59 cm; the biggest was 2020/21 with 245 cm (4.2 times as much). For 39% of the 243 ski areas in Austria, the leanest winter was the same 2016/17.
