Furx
Furx is a ski area in Austria. It sits at about 1,083 m above sea level. The mapped ski area is about 1.2 km across, corner to corner. Within 1.4 km of the centre, the map shows 8 marked runs and 2 lifts, totalling about 0.7 km of piste. Averaged over the last twelve winters, the ERA5 reanalysis gives it 195 cm of snowfall a season, 1194th (tied) of the 3,069 ski areas we measure worldwide. The model runs well below what resorts report, so the ranking is the meaningful part rather than the centimetre figure. 237 other ski areas lie within 120 km. Snow figures and the Powder Score are recalculated every day.
Elevation of the ski area’s centre point, taken from a digital elevation model. It is not the base-to-summit range.
We do not show a snow depth here. The weather model we use reports snow lying on the ground — it knows nothing about grooming or snowmaking, and it is not the base depth a ski area publishes. In Japan we can check our figures against 234 weather stations. Outside Japan there is nothing to check them against, so we do not print a number we have not verified.

When it falls, and how winters differ
Month by month
Month by month, the most snow falls in January. March brings 55% of January’s snowfall. That is a steeper fall than the median for ski areas in Austria (75%): the snow here is concentrated early in the season. In amount, March brings 38 cm, less than the median of 49 cm.
Winter by winter
Across the 12 winters measured, the average is 195 cm, and 7 of them fell short of it. The leanest was 2016/17 with 114 cm; the biggest was 2018/19 with 300 cm (2.6 times as much). For 39% of the 243 ski areas in Austria, the leanest winter was the same 2016/17: bad winters tend to hit a whole region at once.
Snowfall each winter (December–March total). The dashed line is the average; the numbers mark the leanest and the biggest winter.
