Month by month, the most snow falls in December. March brings as much as January, or more. In amount, March brings 42 cm, about the same as the median of 48 cm.
Winter by winter
Across the 12 winters measured, the average is 172 cm, and 8 of them fell short of it. The leanest was 2016/17 with 71 cm; the biggest was 2020/21 with 435 cm (6.1 times as much). For 31% of the 177 ski areas in Italy, the leanest winter was the same 2016/17: bad winters tend to hit a whole region at once.
