Akasawa Ski Area is a ski area in Gunma, Japan. The terrain spans roughly 719–1046 m above sea level. The mapped ski area covers about 1.0 km². There is no settled snow at the moment — the season has not started here yet. Averaged over the last twelve winters, the ERA5 reanalysis gives it 258 cm of snowfall a season, 670th (tied) of the 3,065 ski areas we measure worldwide. The model runs well below what resorts report, so the ranking is the meaningful part rather than the centimetre figure. 2 official live cameras are linked below. 134 other ski areas lie within 120 km. Snow figures and the Powder Score are recalculated every day.
Elevation range is estimated by sampling points across the ski area.

How much snow it gets
Measured by us across 3,065 ski areas by one identical method. These are not the resort’s own published figures.
The tick marks the median across the 393 Japanese ski areas. All four bars run the same way — longer is better.
The quality score deliberately excludes how much snow falls — it uses temperature, frequency, rain and wind. Snowing a lot and snowing well are different things.

These are analyses of hot spring sources, not a list of baths you can visit. They date from 1910 to 2005, many from decades ago, so today’s temperature and chemistry may differ. Names are as recorded in Japanese. Temperature and pH bands follow Japan’s standard for analysing hot springs.

- Everywhere on Earth You Climb for Snow. Japan Is the One Place You Drive Toward the Sea. Across 3,065 ski areas we measure, height and snowfall move together — +0.73 in France, +0.85 in Germany. In Japan the figure is −0.03. The reason is not that elevation stopped working.
- Half the Alps Already Snows Within 2°C of Rain. In Hokkaido It Is 3%. We measured how close to freezing the snow already falls at 249 resorts in the Alps and North America, and at all 393 in Japan. Japan is not one place: Honshu is among the most exposed, Hokkaido among the least.
- Hokkaido's Ski Areas Sit 659 m Lower Than Honshu's and Are Still Colder Across 393 Japanese ski areas, elevation sets the temperature and latitude does almost nothing to it — inside Honshu, going north is worth nothing at all. What latitude buys instead is the absence of rain.
